Volunteer Opportunities
Parishioners at Wicomico Parish volunteer their time and resources on an individual basis and in group efforts to provide for those in need.  The following organizations in our area are supported by our parish:

Gleamers and Blenders is the local food bank which we support financially and with food donations. A team of Wicomico Parish volunteers picks up donated foods twice weekly.

Meals on Wheels is a program in which volunteers deliver nutritious meals a week to seniors over 60 years of age who are homebound and who are physically or mentally unable to cook for themselves. Our parishioners deliver meals one week a month for at least 10 months during the year.

Interfaith Service Council is an organization of area churches formed to assist anyone in need. A warehouse of donated household items is maintained by Interfaith, and volunteers provide house repairs and wheelchair ramps. Financial assistance for housing, utility and medical bills is also available.

Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Troops are sponsored and supported by Wicomico Parish Church and meet in our Parish Hall.

The Haven is an emergency shelter open to abused women and their children.

The Free Health Clinic provides medical and dental services to qualified individuals without health insurance in this area.  We cook dinner for the Free Health Clinic workers twice a year.

The Northumberland Family YMCA offers a free Family Nights Program that we support and is currently planning to provide a full service facility and swimming pool for county residents.

Court-appointed Special Advocates is a volunteer advocacy effort for abused and neglected children involved in the court system.

Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck provides care as well as emotional, social and spiritual support in end-of-life situations.

Volunteers with Northumberland Elementary School Reading Partners assist and encourage children who lag behind in their reading skills.
Fundraising Efforts

The Discoveries Consignment Shop, located in historic Wicomico House, is run by the women of Wicomico Parish Church. It is open year-round on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11a.m.-3p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Proceeds are donated to local organizations.

Wicomico Parish Market Day is held every year on the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. It is a major ECW fundraiser, and 100% of the proceeds are returned to the community. The focus is on food - fresh bakery items, soups, chili, pot pies, venison sausages, jams, jellies and pickles – all homemade. There is also a large yard sale, used books booth, and local vendors with cheese, meats, honey produce, flowers and plants. The church is open for tours and we arrange for a guest lecturer to join us. Everyone helps with this effort.

The Men’s Breakfast group identifies a community need and makes a donation toward it at the end of each year.
