Volunteer Schedules
(coming soon) At Wicomico Parish Church, we are a congregation full of joyful “doers.” We join parish groups and committees, volunteer for church activities and attend church services and events because we value belonging to the Christian community. Lay Ministry Members of Wicomico Parish Church are very active in the Sunday services. They read the lections and serve as chalice bearers at both services. The Altar Guild prepares the church for all worship services. At our 10 a.m. service, ushers provide bulletins, help with seating, and collect the Sunday offering. Our younger members serve as acolytes, and the choir leads us in singing hymns. Tellers count donations from the Sunday plate every week. Volunteer Activities Parish volunteers are involved in many efforts and events throughout the year for both fellowship and to support outreach projects. Church Committees include Outreach, Membership, Coffee Hours, Health and Wellness, Market Day, Church Grounds and Cemetery. Volunteers are always welcome. Rector and Staff |
VestryThe Vestry at Wicomico Parish Church comprises nine lay members of the parish who are elected by the congregation to serve a revolving three-year term. The Vestry is responsible for managing the affairs of the parish, and therefore takes care of parish finances, maintains parish grounds and buildings, and recruits individuals to fill various positions of leadership. The Vestry also elects a new Rector when the position becomes vacant. Vestry meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month.

Rector,
The Rev. James H. Silcox, Jr. Prior to being ordained, Jim served our country for 34 years in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of colonel. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and in 1980 received a Master of Arts in American History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The priorities of Jim's ministry are preaching, pastoral care, and teaching. He is committed to developing and leveraging the strong culture of the parish leadership and to continuing the legendary tradition of welcoming hospitality and active outreach at Wicomico Parish Church. Jim has been married for more than 40 years to his wife Jane, who holds a BS, an MBA, and a Masters of Theology. They have three children and two grandchildren. Jim and Jane make their home on Carter's Creek just outside Irvington. 
Choirmaster and Organist, Olivia Cockrell
Olivia is a native of the Northern Neck. She has been Organist and Choirmaster at Wicomico Parish Church for almost 20 years. She also plays the harp and has a lovely singing voice. Olivia, who is the heart and soul of our music program, leads the choir in rehearsals on Tuesday mornings and during the 10 AM service every Sunday. She initiated the Advent Lessons & Carols service, now a wonderful tradition in addition to Christmas Lessons & Carols. The multi-talented Olivia also holds a Coast Guard Master's license and has served as crew aboard menhaden fishing vessels in the Chesapeake Bay, Atlantic Coast, and Gulf of Mexico. |
Fellowship
Fellowship is a vital part of our Christian community, and we value our gatherings and traditions. Many of our traditions we share with other Episcopal churches, such as our Pageant, Pancake Supper, Coffee Hour, and Annual Picnic. Potluck dinners are forever popular. Other traditions are our own, such as our Bagel and Grits Breakfast after the 8 a.m. service, the Men’s Breakfast, Movie Night, and the annual fall Market Day.
A Bagels & Grits Breakfast is our tradition every Sunday after the 8 a.m. service. After the 10 a.m. service we enjoy a Coffee Hour with sweets and light snacks. The Men’s Breakfast is held on the first Saturday of every month. Sometimes there is a program, entertainment, or a speaker, but mostly it is hearty fare and male fellowship. The men also hold spring and fall clean-up days to ready the church grounds for the next season. |
